Long term use of melatonin is associated with heart failure. Over a 5 year review (n=130,828, μ age=55.7), melatonin users are 2-4x more likely to be hospitalized (19.0% vs 6.6%) or die (4.6% vs 2.7%) from heart failure. A causal relationship isn't proven, and these findings were presented at the American Heart Association (not in a peer-reviewed scientific journal).[1]
